Film Review of Catch a Fire
1. In general, what did you like and dislike about the film?
This movie was very different from the previous ones mainly because it's about normal people, and that's one of the things I liked the most. We can observe a black man having a normal life, where it's shows that he is being educated next to white men (even if he's sitting at the end of the room).
The scenography or setting was also something that I liked and I noticed too much. There was a big difference between the dwellings of the whites and the blacks, since in the first one you see everything green and with water to spare, while that of the others is completely dry and brown. In addition, whenever the whites did an outdoor activity, we see industries, or the plant actually, in the background.
And, finally, the scene that I liked the most was when they made a comparison of the singing. The whites sang celebrating the genocide they had committed and gave them recognition medals, while the blacks sang for the funeral of their murdered friends and comrades.
One thing that I didn't like, as our teacher, was the length of the movie. I'd have liked it to look more like the length of the films we saw previously.
2. Who was the character you like the most and the character you liked the least in the film? Why?
As it almost always happens to me, the character that I liked the most was the protagonist: Patrick Chamusso. Mainly for being a person who realized all the evil that was happening around him and his family, and with this thought he decided to do something about it. He became an activist and joined ANC to make South Africa a place where blacks have the same rights as whites.
The character that I liked the least was Nic Vos. Obviously for being a white man who was attacking and not granting rights to black people and, also specifically, for teaching his young children the use of weapons, when they should be having a normal life and playing with their toys.
3. What was the role of Samora Machel, the FRELIMO, and revolutionary Mozambique in the struggle against the South African apartheid? Use examples from the film and the biography of Samora Machel
Samora Machel was an important person in the revolution against apartheid, especially because it provided a space where ANC activists could be united, plan and train. He also fought for the independence of Mozambique and became independent Mozambique's first president.

Nic Vos is the best character in the film, we need villains!
ResponderBorrari am agree on almost everything with you. My favorite was Patrick too, and I really hated Nic Vos, he represented all that is wrong in this world.
ResponderBorrarI also find the scene of the medals really good, it shows how different two realities can be
ResponderBorrarThe scenography was something that I also realized and stood up a lot to me, loved that
ResponderBorrarI also really enjoyed the contrast in the singing of both groups!
